Red Shifting Toward the Speed Of Light

On Friday, we tried to watch a Nova episode on the space race back during the Cold War as a tie-in with our astronomy unit, but it was a no-go on account of the tape being in the wrong box. I decided today to just order an actual DVD from Amazon, so we should be able to watch at least the first part of it by week's end (so glad I have Prime!). We also will have a very short quiz on Thursday regarding the set-up of both a lunar and a solar eclipse. See if they can explain it to you right now!

We will also go into some ancient astronomers this week, which crosses over slightly with Social Studies.

Speaking of Social Studies, I am handing out the final four of our States and Capitals this week. We will have a quiz over that little pocket of states on Thursday.

This week we will also begin our big writing project, but this will be done almost entirely in class. Hopefully in a few weeks, the kids will bring home a really nice narrative writing piece. Also with writing, we will continue with our possessive nouns study by going into possessive pronouns. At least with possessive pronouns, the kids don't have to worry about those pesky apostrophes and where they should go.

Well, those are the majors for this week. Of course, we will have our normal Spelling and everything this week as well. And my Math class? Well, that's one hot mess of mine that I'm hoping to get worked out tomorrow for a re-test on Wednesday.

And last but not least, later on this week, I will be introducing the kids' Rube Goldberg Machine projects (Makerspace!) and their demonstration speeches. So...perfect storm, keep on storming!

Let's have a great week, everybody!
