Eating Crow

Noooo!

Okay, fine. Apollo is the god of the sun. Still doesn't make any sense to me that they named the moon missions the Apollo Missions if he isn't the god of the moon, but whatever.

Always own up to your mistakes. If school was still going, I'd give you guys ten push-ups to make up for my mistake, but since school is out, I guess I don't have to. Plus, I'm not sure if anyone is actually reading this anyway. I may just be writing to myself. Still feels good to admit it.

Supermoon

Well, it's too bad we didn't have a visit from Supermoon when we were studying the moon in Science, now isn't it?

You Heard the Man, Robin

Hope everyone is still reading this summer! Remember the enjoyment that many of you have, and most of you were able to acquire this school year? Well keep it up all summer, guys. You get smarter when you read. I don't care what it is you're reading, just don't stop. Find something you like, and snap to it, folks!

Der Ampelmann Aus Aller Welt

Here's something fun for this week. Remember when I got back from Germany and showed you the stickers with "der Ampelmann", the "walk/don't walk" lights in the shape of the little man in Berlin? It is one of the few things that carried over from East Berlin (back in their Soviet days) into the present-day re-merged Berlin.

This video is a German video that shows "der Ampelmann" around the world. It's pretty interesting. I never knew, until I went to Germany, that walk/don't walk signs could be so interesting.

Read It and Weep

Yes! Thank you! Those of you who I just got started daily reading this year, it's not too late. Please continue this next year and for the rest of your lives.

Parents: Talk to them about what they're reading. Ask them about it. I can't do it anymore.

I've read that less than 3% of people read books. This is frightening. Don't let your children (or you!) be a part of the 97% that don't.

This Is Why We Teach Persuasive Writing

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook earlier this evening. This is from about 70 years ago, but it seems to have never been more apt than today. Yes, he is supposed to be dressed as Adolf Hitler. That's the irony. Listen to the speech for what it is. It's amazing how relevant it is to present day.

In this movie, Charlie Chaplin (usually a silent film star) took over the identity of a "bad German" (not sure if they call them Nazis or not) and delivered this speech in his stead.

Stop the World for One Night

Anyone going to Relay for Life this Saturday? It's at the high school track. Join Team Woodbrook or whatever team you may have a connection to if you'll be in town. Take your parents. Take your grandma's neighbor.

You can join here

Yes, it costs ten bucks to join, but it's a fundraiser. That's what you have to expect. Put up a lemonade stand!

Seriously, I truly apologize for not making a bigger deal of this in class. In the past, back when I was in charge of Team Woodbrook, we would have bake sales before the choir shows, kids went around asking for money door to door, and I got everyone hyped to the gills about Relay for Life. Last year, I turned it over to Dr. Saam, but stayed somewhat connected. This year, I've completely fallen off.

But I will be there. Don't know what hours yet (probably evening), but I will be there.

Mr. Golden Sun

Ahhh, at last! A day of summer break that at least looks like it's summer out.

Hope everyone's having a great one so far. I'm getting a lot of work done in and around my house so far. It wasn't fair that the first day off was so gray and dull and dreary--kind of like I felt that day.
