This Is Why We Teach Persuasive Writing

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook earlier this evening. This is from about 70 years ago, but it seems to have never been more apt than today. Yes, he is supposed to be dressed as Adolf Hitler. That's the irony. Listen to the speech for what it is. It's amazing how relevant it is to present day.

In this movie, Charlie Chaplin (usually a silent film star) took over the identity of a "bad German" (not sure if they call them Nazis or not) and delivered this speech in his stead.

was that scripted or real

It was scripted. It was part of a movie. It's Charlie Chaplin, and it was part of a movie. Usually he was a silent film actor, but he made this one later on.

He's not supposed to be portraying "THE Adolf Hitler" here, but rather one who had a change of heart.
