Where Could I Find Such Splendid Company?

About a year ago, John Wooden died. It's no secret to any of my students that he is one of my personal favorite people of all time, as a teacher, a coach, and as a Boilermaker, in that very order. Reading his books has profoundly affected how I teach and how I coach. I wish nothing more than to be one tenth as good a teacher and human being as he was. I highly suggest watching this speech.

  7. G: No, I wasn't born in 1979, actually. Sorry, buddy!

B: I'm having a great summer so far!

M: John Wooden was a great guy who went to Purdue, where he played basketball, and went on to become one of the NCAA's greatest coaches. He became really famous coaching for UCLA. He died at the age of almost 100 last year. Great guy. I have quotes by him up in my classroom.

  9. Hahahaha!! No, talk to him and see if he's cool. Oh, wait, never mind. If he accepts it, he could be some kind of internet creeper, like those we talked about in class. And he would be ruining the reputations of us Jeff Carters everywhere!
